Links a la Mode (April 25th)

Links a la Mode

Be Yourself

With summer fast approaching, we're all taking it easy when it comes to putting on a show. Summer is always more laid back, down to earth and relaxed... a perfect time to reflect on the madness that is everyday life. This week's roundup did a lot of reflecting, from the poses we put on for our blogs, the hamster wheel of personal style on the web, going modest when everyone else is baring it all, letting our hair be it's natural beautiful self, and even embracing your "eye bags." If you're wondering if fashion blogging is shallow or conscious or if Galliano deserves forgiveness this is the roundup for you this week! If you're just looking for some excellent DIYs for the weekend, we've even got a great floral crown, handstamped jewelry, and shirt dyeing project for you!

Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE to see some eccentric make-up and kitsch details on the runway again! This is what fashion shows should be all about: a big, fun SHOW - the runway is the space for the wild, crazy, artistic ideas and every designer should use it as such! Makes me long for the days when every season had spectacular John Galliano / Christian Dior and Christian Lacroix shows!
YAY for Vivienne Westwood for having the craziest, bravest, wildest, feminine & beautiful ideas since over 25 years without ever being boring!

What are your favourite details? Which would you wear yourself?

Even though the theatre location adds quite a weird touch to the show I can`t help but love the collection and its atmosphere of dreamy tenderness. Good job, Karl!

Exhibition: Alaïa. Azzedine Alaïa in the 21st Century

(Photos removed due to copyright reasons.)

From June 8th until September 8th 2013, NRW-Forum Düsseldorf will be showing the fashion exhibition Alaïa. Azzedine Alaϊa in the 21st century.
The exhibition displays the most fantastic Alaïa fashion creations of the last ten years.

Each room will focus on a different material that Azzedine Alaïa has consistently used over the past decade: velvet, fur, wool, leather, cotton, animal skins, chiffon and knitwear.

Azzedine Alaïa is one of the last major living couturiers. The exhibition focuses on Alaia's work in the 21st Century. Tunisian-born Azzedine Alaïa is one of the most important fashion designers of the last decades.

The name Alaïa stands for glamour, sensuality, style, cut, self-confidence, comfort and, of course, sex appeal. His tight dresses embraced the bodies of the world’s most seductive and successful women.

The exhibition Alaïa. Azzedine Alaïa in the 21st century has been compiled by curator Mark Wilson / Groninger Museum, the exhibits have been provided by Azzedine Alaïa.

Accompanying the exhibition, a monograph has been published: Azzedine Alaïa in the 21st Century. Hardcover, 224 pages.

I`m looking forward to visiting this wonderful exhibition. Forum NRW`s fashion exhibitions are always excellent and a must see! Can`t wait to go.

What do you associate with Alaïa? Which are your favourite dresses/items in the selection above?
