The Kunsthalle München shows the exhibition „Jean Paul Gaultier. From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk“. This first fashion-exhibition of the Kunsthalle is a coproduction with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier.
Priority partner of the show is Swarovski, whose gems where used by Gaultier right from the start. The exhibition shows a number of major pieces that are gemmed with crystals by Swarovski, accompanied by a wide selection of jewelry and accessoires. As Jean Paul Gaultier once said: “Your inner light can shine bright thanks to Swarovski crystals”.

The comprehensive exhibition honors Gaultier's manifold and fascinating lifetime achievement. The french couturier is one of the most influential designers of contemporary fashion for over 40 years. He challenged our understanding of fashion and beauty with daring and ironic creations more than anyone else.

The exhibition shows more than 140 creations, starting with his beginnings in 1971 up to today. The exhibition shows Haute Couture and Prêt-à-porter alongside with the costumes from the movies by Pedro Almodóvar, stage costumes, like Madonna's famous Bustier she wore at the “Blonde Ambition Tour” in 1990 and many more pieces worn by stars like Kylie Minogue. Gaultier's close teamwork with artists like Pierre et Gilles, Cindy Sherman or Andy Warhol is shown in detail with artistic and documentary movie material, videos and photography.

Peter Lindbergh shot pictures with Jean Paul Gaultier and Nadja Auermann specifically for the exhibition in Munich. The cover of the exhibition catalog shows Nadja Auermann in a dress and shoes gemmed with Swarovski crystals.

The exhibition will be running from September 18th 2015 to February 2nd 2016.
