How To Wear the Transparency Trend S/S 16

See-through clothing is one of the most important trends in summer 2016 and my favourite one, too. Sheer chiffon dresses are the sexiest way to wear it.

Etro / Burberry

Balmain

Sheer fabrics are also interwoven with lace, net, mesh or opaque ones.

Burberry

Underwear may show so don`t go for nudes. Simple panties should be prefered to hotpants, since the latter make your legs looks shorter. Don`t add lingerie, a see-through dress is sexy enough.

Versace

Emilio Pucci

Pucci delivers the most creative variations, adding embroideries, colour-combinations, pleats and varying hemlines or collars.

Miu Miu

Miu Miu proposes the most edgy variation, styling a sheer dress over demure shirts, adding edge again by wearing no bottom underneath.

Jenny Packham

A more wary approach to wearing the transparency trend, is to only wear one sheer piece, either as top, bottom or upper layer.

How To Wear Velvet F/W 12

Velvet is one of the most important trends this season and perfect for festive holiday-looks.

1 - skirt All Burberry

The easiest way to wear it is pairing a velvet skirt with a top of different fabric. This works for daytime, as seen above at Burberry, and in evening looks, too, as in the italian designers` looks below.

2 - skirt Versace - Salvatore Ferragamo - Versace

Velvet cocktail dresses are easy to wear because they need no further accessorizing.

3 - cocktaildresses Versace - Vivienne Westwood - Ralph Lauren

Long velvet evening dresses are harder to pull off. They do not only require a slim figure and elegant attitude but also the highest caution in accessorizing. They need jewellery and accessories but can easily look 'overloaded'. The rule is: The more simple the dress, the flashier the accessory.

4 - evening dresses Jean Paul Gaultier - Ralph Lauren - Etro
Velvet suits make great eveningwear and are perfect for occasions where you rather want to look 'cool' instead of sexy.

5 - suit Ralph Lauren

Velvet coats are so dressy and glamorous that they can be worn like a dress. Make sure you wear a very simple dress (in the same colour) underneath to not create a style-clash when opening the coat.

6 - coats All Burberry

Bags and shoes also come in velvet this season. These beauties need some careful outfit-planing though.

7 - clutch Roberto Cavalli, Alexander McQueen, 2x Versace

Mixing velvet with velvet only works when the pieces have a different fabric between them. You can wear a velvet coat over a leather dress and add velvet shoes or wear a velvet clutch to a lace dress. But a velvet bag worn with a velvet skirt or dress won`t work.

Call Of The Wild: Wildcat Prints in Fall 2012 and How To Wear Them

This season it`s not just leopard, a great many of different wildcat prints are around, which also come in faded, bleached or altered versions. They are compatible among each other but also complement fall`s trends super well.

They work fantastic with this season`s metallics. Be it gold, bronze or rust, they go with all 'warm' hues.

Roberto Cavalli introduces an imaginative rearrangement by putting cat-prints on snake leathers.

Mixing them with black pieces is the classic choice that never fails but you may as well add some (small!) bright details, like this pink.

Wildcat-print adds a glamorous diva-twist to classic retro & tweed looks.

Fur pieces in classic shapes merge nature`s beauty with human design.

Wildcat prints complement fall`s trend colours orange and rust (and their metallic versions) very well.

Maxi skirts made a successful transition from summer to fall and their femininity is a great addition to the print`s wild appeal.

The softness of the winter-trend velvet enhances the print`s sensuality.

Conclusion: this season almost anything goes in mixing animal-prints. You may even add reptile- or snake skins.

Colour-Blocking in theory and practice

Colour-blocking is still trendy this spring/summer, so here is how to pull it off.

1- warm-cold

The colour-wheel is a handy tool for styling your outfit. It`s simple;

Pick two colours from the same family (warm or cold) for clothing and add one flashy accessory or shoe in a complementary hue. Pair one primary colour with it`s secondary colour.

1- complimentary-colours

An example; let`s say you picked a pink blouse and a dark blue skirt (both from the cold colours side), you should pair them with orange shoes (or bag), since orange is the secondary colour to dark blue.

1
Purple, orange & pink
Dress: Lauren by Ralph Lauren, bag: Salvatore Ferragamo, shoes: Elie Saab

Remember that colour-blocking requires bright colours. Neutral colours (black, white, grey) don`t count. Wearing a white shirt to red pants works but is not colour-blocking. Neither is wearing a grey shirt to black pants and white shoes.

99
Red, pink & blue
Dress: Vivienne Westwood, box clutch: Roberto Cavalli, shoes: Joop

Do:

- Wear with simple make-up and simple hair do (open hair, bobs, buns or simple pony-tails work best).
- Colour-block the same colour-intensity. Pair pastel with pastel and neon with neon but don`t wear a neon purse to a pastel dress.
4
Green, magenta & orange
Dress & jacket: Burberry Prorsum, clutch: Elie Saab

Don`t:

- Mix too many colours (4 or more), you don`t want to look like a parrot.
- Mix colour-blocking with other trends like metallics or print-mixing.
- Wear big jewellery, flashy nails or strong make-up with it.

5
