Salvatore Ferragamo celebrates its founder’s colorful life with the launch of a women’s capsule leather goods collection in collaboration with maverick bag designer Sara Battaglia. The collection highlights the House’s longstanding commitment to promoting new talent, while honoring the legacy of Salvatore’s unique life and restless creativity.
Juxtaposing quirkiness with complex craftsmanship and linking heritage to modernity, the Sara Battaglia for Salvatore Ferragamo collection evokes the inherently Italian notion of Lo splendore della Vita (The Splendor of Life) - that luxurious quest for pleasure and delight that informed Salvatore’s creative approach.
The heart of the collection sees Sara Battaglia playfully channel one of Salvatore’s most iconic shoe designs - the Rainbow Wedge, created in 1938 for Judy Garland - and reinterpret it for the modern woman across kaleidoscopic bags and small leather goods.
Consisting of four different handbag styles in an assortment of sizes, as well as a wallet, notebook, pouch, key chain and belt, the collection effortlessly updates the quality, color, humor, Italian spirit and groundbreaking mix of materials that have long been recognized as Ferragamo hallmarks. Day bags feature woven silk scarf detailing throughout while bold evening clutches in metallic and rainbow are finished with brass and lacquer.
Battaglia, who founded her eponymous brand in 2011, was only six when she created her first bag by handcrafting a piece of fabric stolen from her mother. By combining a rich understanding of Italian craftsmanship with her family’s longstanding artistic lifestyle, Battaglia has since garnered acclaim for her fresh and modern bag designs. “It is an honor for me to collaborate with Salvatore Ferragamo,” she says, “a brand whose unique mix of history, innovation, irony, style and unparalleled class provided me with the perfect chance to twist the iconic Rainbow Wedge into something new.”
The Sara Battaglia for Salvatore Ferragamo collection will be available to purchase in stores and online from May 2016.
