Exhibition: Armin Morbachs 'Fashion Messies' Vertical Gallery
Düsseldorf`s Hotel InterContinental is hosting its third Vertical Gallery:
Armin Morbach: Fashion Messies

The vertical gallery inside Hotel InterContinental: the installation stretches through eleven floors with one picture per floor hanging opposite of the glass-elevator. With going up and down one can see the pictures evolve like a flip-book.

Morbach collected fourthousand plastic bags for this project...
...and stapled them onto furniture and walls to create the 'messie set' which creates the extreme contrast to the white high fashion.
Picture on the eleventh floor, where the photography reaches its climax with the most persons in one picture.
Morbach shot the series in his studio in Hamburg, built the set and did the styling himself.
And finally, here`s me.
So, where do we draw the line? Why are huge amounts of certain goods acceptable and others are not? How is it, that we only consider the collecting of cheap objects compulsive and don`t apply the same logic to luxury items?
I was impressed with the exhibition. The clearity, details, contrasts, colours and contradictions in Morbach`s photography are amazing. I was even more impressed when I learned that he is an autodidact (in photography) and did the entire realization himself. It is ultra-rare that one person possesses all the skills to create such a series: the vision, the filigree skills and the artisan skills.
Amin Morbach has clearly established himself as one of the most important contemporary german fashion photographers and set up an installation that is very worth seeing.
The exhibition is running from february 2nd until april 1st 2012.

Salvatore Ferragamo PreFall 2012 Presentation
Fragments of a journey. A station, the echo of trains softened in the refined atmosphere of an exclusive lounge. Waiting, an ultra-sophisticated woman, naturally elegant in her daytime clothes with the intricate play of printed checks, lozenge and patchwork. On her knees a beauty case, square but soft, made of precious skins.
Her style expresses a sense of eccentricity: unexpectedly short hemlines and the open folds of her pleated skirts, accentuated by her sophisticated poses.
She wears a soft brimmed fedora graced by a feather, an astrakhan-lined leather and python cape and a key by her neck, as a pendant or the buckle of a blouse.
She chooses a double-breasted check overcoat with leather piping and small jackets with traditional patterns and wears them with a shirt and square-ended tie over slim double wool trousers with a new padlock belt.
For the evening, brush-stroke check print on silk twill plays with velvet, while pleated chiffon cocktail dresses are enlivened by magnificent geometrical lace embroidery in full colour.
The vibrant tones of the autumnal palette dictate the atmosphere of this voyage: red wine, purple and thyme green, lit up by the comforting softness of neutral hues like camel, tan and leather.
The knitwear, a field of continuous experimentation, is a showcase of sumptuously rich textures.
The entire collection is enriched by the luxury of exotic skins: from the Argyle sweater with suede, python and cashmere inlays, to the knitted dress with crocodile, python and ostrich piping, the exclusive allure of the suede suit with crocodile borders and the ostrich overcoat with a check flannel lining.
The wardrobe is completed with the collection of the bags, small and exquisite: the travel case, the shoulder clutch, the portfolio, and the crocodile or suede beauty cases with python and metal detailing on the padlock-style fastening. Skins, crafted with virtuosity, reversed and raw cut, generate forms that are simple yet constructed, either flat or geometric.
A bon ton spirit, with a strong dose of the unconventional, the shoes burst from the décolletées and the salomé of interwoven crocodile, ostrich and python. Emblems of a new lifestyle reconciling tradition and evolution, these shoes are ultra- feminine with sinuous lines, dainty toes and thin heels.
